Before I joined, I used to be an assistant engineer. I frequently met up with my insurance agent, Shanny Chang, who subsequently became my manger. She often shared with me her job in the insurance business with excitement. She tried to recruit me after I came out of the army. However, I was rather skeptical of the insurance industry and was not very comfortable with the commission-based salary, where we will receive variable income every month. With the job offer by Chartered, I rejected Shanny. After numerous attempts, she finally persuaded me to attend a BASE® Camp after several rejections from me. I have to admit that she is very patient and persistent! As I was having second thoughts about the engineering job, I thought it might serve as a good exposure for my career options.

After going to BASE® Camp, I decided to take up the challenge. I took the exams while working as an assistant engineer and passed the exams. I was contracted and subsequently started work in January 2007. I quitted my job just when the company declared an annual 2-month bonus. I felt that pinch but was determined to earn back the money!

One good point of Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®) is that there is a disciplined and organized activity system. We worked in groups to do organized activities like street prospecting and roadshows. There was also a lot of sales training provided by the managers and senior advisers during the initial months.

First few months in the career were not too good. However, I persevered and continued to work hard. More and more sales began to come in. After months of hard work, I finally qualified for my 1st two incentive trips: Bangkok and Star Cruise. I am very happy that I joined Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®). I am also thankful to the colleagues who have helped me along the way. I also want to let everyone know that it doesn’t matter if you are a slow-starter like me, because as long as you persevere on and work hard, your efforts will pay off. I will do my best to contribute to the organisation.
